

Heather J. O’Leary, DVM, joined Rhinebeck Equine LLP in
January of 2003.
An avid rider since the age of five, Dr. O’Leary earned her BA in English Literature from Williams College, where she was an active member in the intercollegiate riding team. She graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.
Dr. O’Leary did a post-graduate internship in Lexington, Kentucky, at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. Working with specialists such as Drs. Larry Bramlage, Bill Bernard, and Rolf Embertson, she received intensive training in lameness diagnosis and treatment, internal medicine, neonatology, and anesthesia. She remained in Central Kentucky for another two and a half years, working as a resident veterinarian on Taylor Made Farms in Nicholasville, KY.
Most recently, Dr. O’Leary has attended classes at The Chi Institute, where she studies acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. She hopes to expand this aspect of her practice in the future.
Dr. O’Leary is an active member of the AAEP and volunteers on the Student Relations Committee. In 2006 she was invited to participate in the AAEP Leadership Development Workshop. She returns to her alma mater to lecture to Cornell CVM seniors in the Equine Studies rotation.
Dr. O’Leary’s areas of special interest include general medicine and preventive care, ophthalmology, and neonatology. On farm calls she is accompanied by Jersey, her Jack Russell Terrier. She also has two mares who sometimes take her on trail rides or hunter paces.
