Dr. Mara Paula Ramos Cabrera is from Puerto Rico and has a passion for large animal surgery. She earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, then obtained her DVM from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During veterinary school, Dr. Ramos Cabrera worked at the NC State Equine and Large Animal Hospital as both a floor technician and an OR technician. She also served as President of the Large Animal Surgery Club and as Senior Wet Lab Coordinator for the Student Chapter of the AAEP.

Dr. Ramos is pursuing her goal of becoming a large animal surgeon and is especially interested in soft tissue surgery — and she also loves sinuses. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys traveling, exploring new places with her husband, Norman, and spending time with their dog, Nico, and cats, Clayton and Liu. She also loves discovering local restaurants, solving puzzle challenges, visiting baseball stadiums, and staying connected to her Puerto Rican roots, where family, food, and community are at the heart of everything.
