Dr. Ruth Witmer grew up just outside Ithaca, New York, and began riding horses at a young age. She earned her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from Skidmore College, where she competed on the varsity polo team. After graduation, she worked in polo for several years, an experience that helped inspire her interest in equine sports medicine.

Dr. Witmer then obtained her DVM from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she discovered a passion for ambulatory practice. She pursued an equine internship to become a well-rounded general practitioner and, while she hopes to focus on sports medicine throughout her career, she enjoys all aspects of equine practice. She and her husband own seven polo ponies and a dog named Carmelita. Outside of work, Dr. Witmer enjoys riding, spending time with their horses, and lifting weights.
